Behind the Scenes of Great Productions

Federico Giannace:
Deep Roots, Bold Dreams

In a land where the struggle for rights intertwines with the rugged beauty of the Metapontino region, Federico Giannace has cultivated a unique vision of the world. Raised in the legacy of a remarkable heritage, with a grandfather like Domenico Giannace — a communist unionist, antifascist, protagonist of the peasant struggles for the land — Federico grew up breathing the values of social justice, solidarity, and resistance.

A pivotal influence came from his brother, Alessandro (Montone), founder of the Brigante Sound System, a completely self-built sound system that ignited the reggae and dancehall music culture in Lucania back in 1999. Through this vibrant platform, Federico was introduced to numerous artists from the reggae scene at a young age, shaping his appreciation for music as a universal language of connection and expression.

This ethical foundation merged with a multifaceted personal journey. From walking the fields and exploring the secrets of the earth to transforming raw materials into possibilities—whether shaping metal with skilled hands or capturing light in a photograph — Federico has always sought the hidden essence in things. Similarly, he has preserved sounds and voices, becoming a discreet custodian of sonic memories that narrate the authentic life of a community.

His journey then led him to London, a city pulsating with innovation and creativity. There, collaborating with notable entities such as Officina Coppola, OneMore London, and other key partners, he refined his skills in photography, video mapping, and digital arts. Every project, every image, and every projection became a piece of a larger vision: to tell the world’s stories through fresh perspectives, blending technology and art in perfect harmony.

A remarkable chapter of his life unfolded in Riga during his collaboration with "VFS Films" Here, he further enriched his creative repertoire, building a career that brought him to work with international artists like Richie Stephens, Luciano, Capleton, Sud Sound System, Lampa Dread, Big Simon, Mr. Williamz, More Love Music, Meduza, Yah Man Records, Alea, Maldestro and many others. He created dozens of videos that left a lasting mark on the global music scene.

His artistic path then led him to extraordinary experiences. In Japan, during a tour with Richie Stephens and the Skanation Band, he discovered a vibrant and energetic culture. The music videos he created there went viral, captivating audiences worldwide with dance moves that became iconic. In Jamaica, alongside Sud Sound System for their 25th anniversary, he produced videos that reached the Top 30 of television popularity charts and the Top 100 on iTunes, solidifying his talent as a universal visual storyteller.

His passion for cinema brought him to collaborate with the Lucania Film Festival, a space for experimentation and creativity. There, he worked with Mohsen Makhmalbaf on the film "Marghe and Her Mother," curated the cinematography of several short films, and shaped the mini-series "Suasion," produced by SIAE. Each project became an opportunity to hone his vision and translate stories worth telling into powerful imagery.

His latest project, "Terra e Silenzio" (Earth and Silence), reflects his soul: a compelling narrative that intertwines personal and collective stories, revealing the contrasts and harmonies of Basilicata, a region suspended between tradition and modernity. Through cinema, Federico invites others to look closer, to listen to the silences, and to discover the value of deep roots.

With a life that embraces earth, metal, and spirit, Federico demonstrates that the past is never just a distant shadow but a guiding light toward the future.
